Delivering Excellence in Sports Infrastructure: Amain Engineering

Development Limited’s Tin Shui Wai Open Space Project

At Amain Engineering Development Limited, we take pride in transforming communitiesthrough quality construction projects that serve real needs. Our successful completion ofthe Construction of Open Space in Area 117, Tin Shui Wai (Contract No. SS A506)exemplifies our commitment to delivering exceptional sports and recreational facilitiesthat enhance the lives of Hong Kong residents.

Project Overview: Building More Than Just Facilities

Located at the junction of Tin Wah Road and Wetland Park Road in northern Tin Shui Wai,this comprehensive 25,000 square meter project represents a significant investment incommunity infrastructure. With a total project value of HK$232.3 million, thedevelopment was completed between August 2012 and March 2014, transformingvacant land into a vibrant hub for sports and recreation.

Working as the main contractor under the Architectural Services Department, wedelivered a multi-faceted facility that addresses the critical shortage of public sportsfacilities in the Yuen Long District. Prior to this project, the district’s 586,500 residentshad access to only two full-sized football pitches, both operating at 100% utilization. Ourproject directly responded to this community need while supporting the Hong KongGovernment’s commitment to football development.

Technical Excellence: The Artificial Turf Sports Facility

Professional-Grade Playing Surface

Ming Thein / Mingthein.com

Unlike natural turf pitches that can only provide approximately 60 sessions per monthdue to maintenance requirements, our artificial turf system delivers up to 270 usablesessions monthly. This dramatic increase in availability directly addresses the highdemand for football training facilities in the district, particularly given the presence ofprofessional teams including Tin Shui Wai Pegasus and several youth league teams.

The artificial turf system we installed meets international standards set by both FIFA andthe International Rugby Board, ensuring consistent playing conditions year-roundregardless of weather. The surface features proper drainage systems, safety compliance, and durability specifications that support intensive use while maintaining optimalperformance characteristics.

Spectator Infrastructure

Our design includes a covered spectator stand with 200 seats, providing comfortableviewing facilities that enhance the community sports experience. The covered designprotects spectators from Hong Kong’s variable weather conditions while maintainingclear sightlines to the playing field.

Innovative Building Design: The L-Shaped Service Building

Functional Architecture

We constructed a sophisticated L-shaped, single-story services building that serves multiple essential functions. This thoughtful design integrates seamlessly with the site’s layout while maximizing both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

The building houses:
•Modern toilet facilities designed for high-volume public use
•Professional-grade changing rooms meeting sports facility standards
•Solar panel systems for sustainable energy generation
•Additional ancillary facilities supporting daily operations

Functional Architecture

Vertical Green Walls

Green Roof Systems

The project incorporates green roof installations that provide additional environmental benefits. These systems help with:
•Stormwater management
•Building insulation improvement
•Urban heat island reduction
•Habitat creation for local wildlife

Green roofs have proven particularly effective in Hong Kong’s subtropical climate, helping reduce cooling costs while managing the city’s intensive rainfall patterns.

Recreational Infrastructure: The Jogging Trail System

Community Fitness Facilities

Our 300-meter jogging trail provides dedicated space for fitness enthusiasts while integrating seamlessly with the broader landscape design. The trail system demonstrates professional construction standards with:
•Proper surface materials for joint protection
•Integrated drainage systems
•Safety lighting for extended hours of use
•Landscaping that provides natural shade and visual appeal

The jogging trail connects different areas of the site while providing dedicated space for various fitness activities. This multi-use approach maximizes the facility’s community benefit by accommodating diverse recreational needs within a single, well-designed space.
Landscape Integration
The external landscape works create an attractive, functional environment that enhances the overall user experience. Professional landscaping includes:
•Strategic tree placement for natural shade
•Drought-resistant plant selections
•Integrated seating areas
•Pedestrian-friendly pathways
