Open Space at Eastern Street North, Sai Ying Pun 西營盤海濱公園

Sai Ying Pun Waterfront Park boasts a 440‑metre–long waterfront promenade and integrates 1.32 hectares of play landscapes and greenbelt, transforming a formerly barren, segregated car park and underutilized marginal land into a high‑quality seaside space with sweeping Victoria Harbour views. The project connects seamlessly with the waterfront promenade and has been developed as one of the major public spaces along the harbourfront—a key link in the continuous Victoria Harbour waterfront corridor—allowing citizens to leisurely enjoy the sea and sky.

Scope:

The park’s design is centered on the concept “A Day in the Harbour,” translating the harbour’s day‑and‑night rhythms into public space. Through the interweaving of landscape, architecture, and spatial design, it cleverly integrates intergenerational play, active programs, ecological environment, and social interaction. The design incorporates public aspirations for a waterfront park (such as bouncing play equipment, sand and water play areas, maximized sea views, and shading). Conceived as a continuous waterfront promenade, the design moves beyond the traditional “children‑only” playground model to create an intergenerational shared space—where different families, friends, and generations can play, rest, and interact together. Full accessibility is incorporated throughout, creating inclusive play features (for example, elevated sand tables and inclusive dynamic spinning equipment) to ensure people of different abilities can participate.
